A hard reset resets your phone back to factory defaults. This is how it is done:
1. Power off the phone and unplug it from the computer.
2. Press and hold soft1 and soft2 keys.
3. Press and hold power button for around 1 to 1.5 seconds. Release power button. Keep hold soft1 and soft2 keys.
4. Later, screen shoould show instructions to ask user to press '0' key to reset to factory default.
5. Press '0' within the timeout period, which is only several seconds only.
6. If no instruction is shown on the screen, repeat steps 1 to 4.
Timing is sensitive
Reassign side buttons
In order to use this trick you first need to application unlock the phone. You can reassign two buttons; the camera button and the "IE" button above the volume control buttons. The shortcuts to what the buttons run when pressed are placed in the files Short_POC and Short_CAMERA. These files are stored in the Windows folder. To edit them, open Windows on your pc with explorer and drag those files to your computer. Now open notepad and drag 'n drop the files into it. Edit them, save and the put them back on the phone.
Removing application lock

There are two ways to application unlock your C600. The first way is to use Orange's official unlock method. I generally consider this a stupid solution to a simple problem. Here is a better solution. If you have a pre-AKU2 Orange rom or an Imate rom this will work. It will not work on the AKU2 rom. If you have an AKU2 rom and want to use this solution I suggest you install the Imate rom.
First download this registry application. It's a signed binary that will work on a locked phone. Unzip it and transfer it to the phone. Open the registry app and change the following:
| HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESecurityPoliciesPolicies/0001001 = 2 -> Change the value data from 2 to 1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESecurityPoliciesPolicies/0001005 = 16 -> Change the value data from 16 to 40 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESecurityPoliciesPolicies/0001017 = 128 -> Change the value data from 128 to 144 |
In order to use certain API's (For example the USB API's, so you can use WMStorage) you also need to add an extra value. In the same folder as above add this:
| HKLMSecurityPoliciesPolicies/000101b = 1 |
You do this by selecting Menu->New Value->DWORD. Input 0000101b as Value name and 1 as Value data.
Now reboot the phone and it should be unlocked!
SIM unlocking

First application unlock your phone, then download SPV-Services.zip. This contains 3 files; Cert.cab,
TyphoonNBFTools.dll and SPVServices.exe. Copy Cert.cab to your phone and install it. If it fails you haven't application unlocked the phone. Next, run SPVServices.exe on your pc. Make sure you have Activesync installed and have a partnership set up. Now click the SIM unlock link and follow the instructions. If you get a strange error saying something like "error -2849846734" it's because the Cert.cab hasen't been installed correctly. If all goes well I suggest you go check out the second feature of the program; The CID tool. It will set the phones CID to a special developer SuperCID which allows all rom files to be installed without being modified. This might very well come in handy later.
Installing the Imate rom

The rom that Imate releases for it's SP5 phone is compatible with the SPV C600. At the time of writting there are two versions of it. The "Worldwide english" (WWE) version and the "Nothern region english" (NRE) version. The only difference between the two is the langauges they have interface/T9 support for. The WWE supports all the major langauges like US english, french, german etc. while the NRE has supports most of the langaues used in nothern europe, that is danish, swedish, norwegian, UK english, dutch and so on. The NRE version also have US english support. These two can be downloaded here:
i-mate_SP5_NRE_2.5.333.1.zip
i-mate_SP5_WWE_2.5.331.2.zip
If you have a rom from a different provider and have not used the SPVServices tool to change your phone's CID to a superCID you will need to edit the rom file a bit to make it install. For this you need to download this:
TyphoonNbfTool.zip
What you then do is to unzip the rom download files above all the way down so you have the nk.nbf rom file (You can use winrar for this). You then start up TyphoonNbfTool.exe and open the nk.nbf file. Next go to Tools -> Edit header data. Delete the Operator field (so it's blank) and click ok. Then save the file. Now the rom file should be flashable onto the phone! Now run ROMUpdateUtility.exe and it should all work!
Using the C600 as a bluetooth modem over GRPS

1. Pair your device as normal (I?m using the Windows BT stack so its: Start > Control Panel > Bluetooth Devices > Add?). Go to Bluetooth Devices -> Properties -> Services and ensure Dial-up Networking (DUN) was installed. Note the COM Port used. In my case this is COM22.
2. On your C600 go to your Start Menu > Accessories folder > Modem Link. Select your service providers access point. Then tap Activate and OK the warning that Activesync will not work.
3. Back on your PC go to Network Connections (Start > Control Panel > Network Connections) and click Create New Connection on the left hand side. On the network type page select "Connect to the internet", click next and select "Set up my connection manually". Next select "Connect using a dial-up modem". Here's where you need to remember what COM port your BT modem was using. If you have more than one bluetooth modem install the only difference is what COM port they use. Select the bluetooth modem with the COM port you noted. Next, select a proper name for the connection. Now, you will be prompted for which phone number to dail - input *99#. That will tell the phone to connect via GRPS. Go to the next page. Here you will be asked for name and password. Leave them all blank. Click next and you're done! Now you would simply connect to the new connection as you would with a dailup modem.
Adding A2DP drivers for use with bluetooth earphones

If you want to use your phone with a wireless bluetooth stereo headset (Such as the Jabra BT620s) you will need to install these drivers in order to enable the stereo mode.
Setting up Push Email

There are several services out there offering Push Email. A free one is Mail2Web which gives you Microsoft Exchange Server features for free. That is, syncing, contact list back, push email, tasks backup and such. To get it working do this:
1) Sign up here
2) Open Activesync on your phone and configure the server with the following;
Server Name: mobile.exchange.mail2web.com
ActiveSync Username: ***Your Exchange Email Address***
Password: ***Your Password***
Domain: ad2
3) Open the Comm Manager and make sure "Microsoft DirectPush" is enabled.
You might need to either sync or restart the phone before Direct Push becomes active.
